This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to create a flashing lights text effect. You can see the result of this tutorial in the image below.
| | Start off by creating a new photoshop document and then create some large thick text. I've used a light blue Arial Black 150pt for this tutorial. Make a selection using the text and then, on a new layer, fill the selection with a darker blue (image b). Feather (select > feather) the selection by 7 pixels, contract (select > modify > contract) it by 5 pixels and then delete the selection area. You should now have something like in image c) |
| | Zoom in to 300% magnification and then create a white circle on a new layer and in a new layer set. Apply bevel and emboss (layer > layer style > bevel and emboss) on the circle, setting size and soften to 0, and the shadow opacity to 100%. | This is the 2nd part of a Photoshop tutorial to create a flashing lights text effect. Next, make a selection using the white circle and then contract it by 1 pixel. Set the foreground to a bright blue (00BAFF) and the background to a dark blue (064C75). Create a radial gradient, by dragging from the center of the selection down to the bottom of the selection. So now that you've created the 1st blue light, duplicate it and move it below. Set the hue (image > adjustments > hue/saturation) to -180, which should change it to red (image b). Now duplicate both of them again and position them like in image c). |
| | Continue to cover the entire letter and then use the rectangular marquee to delete any excess of the letter. |
| | Once you've covered the 1st letter with the lights, finish off covering the rest of the text. Next, merge the layer set (layer > merge layer set) and then duplicate the resulting layer. Change the hue (image > adjustments > hue/saturation) of the duplicate layer to -180. This will change the blue to red and the red to blue. Now that you have 2 layers, save it and then open it up in Image Ready. For the first frame make 1 of the layers visible and for the second make the other visible. |
